Notes for Edward Maroney
This is from research done by Paul C. Maroney before 1983.
Edward Maroney and Catherine McMullen Maroney sailed to America from Ireland late in the month of December 1831 with their six children, plus Daniel who was apparently born in transit. Paul says that he and his wife Catherine were from County Cork Ireland. He says his research shows that in southern Ireland the family is known as MORONEY while in northern Ireland the name is spelled MARONEY. Shortly after the arrival of the family in New York, having "poled" their way on a flat boat, up the Raisin River to Sharon Hollow, the Irish Hills, Lenawee County. Then by treck [sic] to a place in Lodi Township, Washtenaw county Michigan, father and mother both died, leaving seven children, the youngest probably about 3 years of age. These Maroneys made their homes in and around Chelsea, Michigan, which is just west of Ann Arbor.
