Linda Kirstine Rasmussen (Adnil), died peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2013 surrounded by her immediate family, at her home in Girdwood, a home she designed and built,. She fought a four year stubborn battle against stage four breast cancer.
Adnil was born in Anchorage, at the old Providence Hospital, on December 15, 1953. She was the daughter of Danish immigrants Hans and Marie Rasmussen. She grew up in Spenard. After her father dug his own well by hand, the family grew thousands of pounds of potatoes every summer. She attended Romig Jr. High and graduated from Dimond High in 1972. In 1975 she received a degree in Education from Alaska Methodist University. After college Adnil followed her favorite band ( Freddy Fleet and his fast feet) to Girdwood where she met her husband, James. The couple was married on November 13 (Friday) 1981 in Reno, NV.
Adnil had many jobs during her early years in Girdwood. She worked as a waitress and bartender at Chilkoot Charlies, Double Muskies and Alyeska Resort. (Where she voluntarily became known as Adnil, Linda backwards, because there were to many Linda's working together) She also worked at Telalaska Cable and Video Store. But her true calling and passion was as an ASD special education teachers assistant at Wonder Park Elementary, later at Campbell Elementary. She had a particular affinity for children with learning disabilities and was often given the most difficult students to tutor. She taught with a combination of tough love and incredible patience. Nothing made her happier than watching "the learning light" come on for these kids. She was well respected amongst her colleagues and dearly loved by her students.
Adnil was an exceptional self-taught cook, opening her house and kitchen for many dinners and celebrations. More than a few bachelors and local friends showed up conveniently at dinner time.
Adnil is remembered fondly by many friends. She will be remembered as a talented chef, great gardener, funny, resourceful, loyal, loving , sincere, hardworking, original, smart, generous, courageous, witty, beautiful, tough as nails charming, charismatic, a terrific "off the Chart" mom and "what a dame".
Her daughter, Natalie, writes, we lost the life of most amazing and the beautiful women in my life today. There is no creative or philosophical thing I can say to sum up the amount of love I have for this women. I love you mom!!
Adnil is survived by her husband James Bishop; son, Hans Bishop and daughter Natalie Bishop Foster (Ryan) and grandson Drake Bishop.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Merete.
Memorial donations are preferred to Providence Hospice, 4001 Dale street, Suite 101, Anchorage, Alaska 99507
