Joseph Pearce, Jr. and his wife are buried at Clynmalira Cemetery. He enlisted in The War of 1812 on August 13, 1814 and served until the was over in September 1814. He was sixteen at the time and was a picket on duty when Francis Scott Key went to the British with a flag of truce. He was a private in Captain Nicholas Tosley's Company of Militia and was stationed at North Moint. He married his cousin Mary Ann Pearce who was born on February 24, 1802 and died in June 1900. Of this union, seventeen children were born. The following lived to maturity: Elizabeth (Shock), John Cole, William Crawford, Rachel (Conoles [sp]), Eliza, Corbin Johnson, Mary Jane (Chilcoat), Rufus, Zania (Fogle), Lavinia (Williamson Pugsley), Greenbury A., Eleanor (aunt Eli Sheredan), William Silas.
